HARMONY

The scripts on this page offer chords and solutions for various methods of harmonization.

We have here the following:

First of all, we have tens of chords in the ‘Harmony’ – ‘Chords’ folder. This will help you to get the same chord on different notes or it will spare you the time to look for chords in other places.

You can build any chord of your own using ‘1 to 12 Parts Intervals’. Select the notes, choose the number of added semitones (+ or -), then choose each interval:

With ‘1 to 12 Intervals Each Note’, you will be asked to add intervals to each note in the selection:

We can also have iterating intervals. Choose the iteration, the number of intervals and the intervals:

And you may repeat the process until you get the desired number of harmonized notes:

You can also add notes, not intervals with ‘Add 1 to 12 Notes’. Cakewalk CAL accepts only integers as input, that's why we have to assign numbers to notes:

C = 0; C# = 1; D = 2; D# = 3; E = 4; F = 5; F# = 6; G = 7; G# = 8; A = 9; A# = 10; B = 11.

You can also have the inversion of a chord or you can choose the lowest note of the inverted chord. There is also a plugin that generates mirror chords:

You can arpeggiate a chord with ‘1 Spread’, where the length of the arpeggiated notes is equal to the length of the notes in the chord or ‘1 SpreadFitTime’ where the whole arpeggio will have the same length as the chord.

You can obtain a quick harmonization of a pattern skipping every other note:

The plugin ‘Custom Harmony’ produces a slower process. You will be asked to choose whether you want to add notes: 3rd, 5th, 7th, 11th and 13th.

For harmonization with major, dominant, ninth and whole-tone triads, see the page ‘Slonimsky’.

When orchestrating, you may wish to have the notes of a chord in separate tracks:

To work in a flow, you can choose a certain method of harmonization from a menu. The result implies also a random factor:
